Something Pretty blanket

I've finished my Something Pretty blanket! I am snuggling under it even as I write these words, and I love it!

Something Pretty blanket from Millie Makes

The blanket is only single bed size, but it does fit that size rather nicely as you can see in the picture. I made176 squares in total - 16 rows each 11 sqaures long.

I have crocheted the squares together using double crochet (that took ages and really made my hands hurt - I think I should have used a smaller hook size!

The inspiration to make this blanket came from a lovely version which I saw on Coco Rose Diaries, but the original pattern is from Millie Makes.

Although I loved the version I saw on Coco Rose Diaries, my colour choices tend to be richer and deeper colours - I guess I just have a different 'colour personality'! It always fascinates me how people's colour choices differ. I do love my pink and purple and you can see that here - 2 shades of purple and 2 shades of pink involved, then some green and blue to stop it from being too completely girly for my taste!

For those of you who are interested in specifics, I used the following yarn:

Rowan Pure Wool DK in shades
012 Snow
052 Orchid
006 Pier
026 Hyacinth

Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK in shades
017 Lilac
046 Airforce

Sublime Baby Cashmerino Silk DK in shades
346 Dusty Pink
002 Cuddle

  2. Your blanket is absolutely stunning and your colors are truly beautiful. Love it. May I ask what size hook you used to crochet your flower blocks?? I am a newbie and I would love to try and make this blanket in pastel colors. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated. Hugs Judy

  3. Hi Judy,

    Thank you!

I used a 4mm hook- I find my crochet id a little too thick and doesn't feel do soft if I use a 3.5mm hook with dk yarn. I guess it depends on your tension though. I woulf just swatch it and see!

    1. Hello Jen, thanks for the information.

      (1) If I was to make a something pretty blanket for the back of My Sofa and wanted to use about 3 shades of Pink, 2 shades of lavender, 2 shades of a pastel aqua, and 2 shades of pastel yellow with a very light tan yarn to surround the flower how many balls of yarn would I need to make a blanket about the size of yours???
      (2) Does the yarn you used for your blanket wash well. I have never used this kind of yarn. I am going shopping tomorrow for the day ( long drive) to a yarn shop and I am not sure what kind of yarn would be good for this project. Thanks for your suggestions. Much appreciated. Hugs Judy

    2. Hi Judy,

I used 4 balls of each of the Rowan and Debbie Bliss yarns that I used for the flower centres of the squares, and had 3 balls of each of the 2 Sublime shades. It sounds like you will be using more colours than I was (9 compared to my 7 colours) so 3 balls of each colour should be more than enough. For my white background colour I think I had 12 or 13 balls- some was scrap from a past project so I can't be 100%. A good tip is to check the yardage on the yarn you buy. I find Rowan Pure Wool is good value- you get more yards for less per ball yhan DB cashmerino and the colours are still lovely. Hope that helps, enjoy your shopping and crochet!

    3. I forgot to reply to your second point! Rowan pure wool is ok to wash normally as long as you use 30 degree wool cycle. However I've never tried to wash anythingas big as a blanket though! Debbie Bliss cashmerino also says on the ball band that it's washable at 30. I would just check the ball band of whichever yarn you buy to be sure.

  4. Hello Jen,

I started working on My Something Pretty crochet blanket today but came to a quick stop. I do not understand the instruction that says" I did the 5 DC, then it says to take hook off loop, put hook ( from front to back) through 3rd chain ( the last ch of space before the 5 DC) and the " Loose Loop", YO pull through both loops on the hook.

It is the instructions after the 5 DC that I do not understand. I think what is happening is that somehow you are pull the 5DC together to make them puffy looking, corrct???

I would be so gratefully if you could help with this step. Thanks so much. Judy
